FOR TEACHERS
[REC] WITH AN INTRODUCTION BY JAN SALDEN
Action, horror, comedy, western, melodrama (amongst many others) are all film genres. And we all know within five minutes which genre we're watching. So how do directors make us know we're watching a horror film even before we've seen any blood? Why do so many westerns feature a lonesome hero? Looking deeper into genres we will see that a genre is always a vague term with no fixed boundaries. Many Hollywood action film have got a romantic component and some humour and most comedy's are also very romantic (just think of all the romantic comedy's that flood the screens every christmas).
Of course, with [REC] screening after this introduction the emphasis of the introduction will be on horror, the most trudden and widely parodised genre of all genres.
The introduction by Jan Salden will be held from 19.30 till 20.15, immediately after that the screening of [REC] will start.
About the lecturer:
Jan Salden works as a filmcritic for Radio L1 and as a professor at the Academy of Fine Art in Maastricht.
